Lovish Spells

14 February 2008

{Love Potion by Evelyn de Morgan circa 1903}
“There is but one genuiine love-potion – consideration.” ~Menander of Athens

Alright I though that today would be a fitting day to post some of my hand written Heart spells and charms. When I was going through a horrible relationship, I turned to my use of poetry and my use of candle burning to help “ease” the process. It was a very troubling time because I was trying to get over my first boyfriend, my very first true love while in another relationship that was just a nightmare. I hope that these can help you in your path, either present now or further on your life’s journey.

“Soul Part Spell” written 9 August 2007

So consumed by the force of the sea, Let my soul part come to me. My heart is true– help me find its other, By powers of sky father and earth Mother. For the greater good and harm to none, By my will this spell is done.

Light the candle and sprinkle a bit of dried rose petal for an extra kick of heart’s truth, also with a bit of maple leaf to sweeten the spell up a bit and add that extra, “umph!”

“Give Me A Sign Charm” written 9 August 2007

Apple for love and knowledge too, My lover, a vision, I ask of you. Give me a sign to see if true. By force of emotion and second sight, Wisest of all give me the light. For the greater good and harm to none, With these rhyming words this charm is done.

Again, light a candle and sprinkle a bit of whatever works for you. Add a few drips from an apple, while you eat it while visualizing your heart’s true love. A sign will come to either verify or not if he/she’s the right one for you.

“Unwanted Spell” written 15 August 2007

He’s not the one, I know this be true, The time isn’t right for me and you. By strongest forces I banish thee, With harm to none and Rule of Three. My heart is a mess without love, Let him move on by light from above. For the greater good my spell is done, By my words, my intent is won.

I think you know what happened with the “Give Me A Sign Charm.” As before use what you have and feel you need. You can go basic and practical or pump it up. It’s yours to spin!

Loveably, Lupercalia…

14 February 2008

{Sleeping (or Drunken) Satyr or the Barberini Faun}
“The decision to kiss for the first time is the most crucial in any love story. It changes the relationship of two people much more strongly than even the final surrender; because this kiss already has within it that surrender.” ~Emil Ludwig

The dreadful day is here. Valentine’s Day, how utterly, sweet. I have never been one for this holiday, perhaps because of my cynicism, but I have used my loathe to flourish my friends in sweets and black-hearted dead-cupid “AntiValentine’s Cards. It is a tradition of ours, and we all share in the part of the hilarity and spoof of this “holiday.”

Fine, I admit, I don’t HATE this holiday. It is actually very sweet, a little too sweet. I feel that instead of putting so much focus on one day a year, that you should be able to show and share your emotions more freely and openly. To love is a gift, and to belittle it the rest of the year, with the exception of Christmas, is just sad. It’s too capitalist nowadays, and is met with the same amount of sweets as on Halloween (as if we didn’t have enough cavities alright?) However, sweets aside, there is one custom of Valentine’s day that I do enjoy….and that is the fertility aspect of it.

Indulge in romance, sexuality and luxury! This is the true mantra of this day. I fancy Lupercalia’s roots instead of the more commercial Saint version. Whips just excite me! No just kidding there, but the roots of this holiday in the Feast of Faun is more intriguing and luring. Sure the cards of Valentine allow you to be creative, however chocolates and flowers only do so much. It’s not what you can buy…it’s what you can OFFER of YOURSELF. Release your inner Cupid, your inner Eros & Aphrodite and personify this day of the year. One does not necessarily need to be in a relationship to feel the energy of true romance. Take the time and indulge yourself in luxuries. Set the scene. Get yourself some of your favourite things, take an aromic bathe, melt away into your soft and rich pillows and blankets, watch your favourite saucy shows, or even employ a feather waver if need be! If you do not have a significant other…be that other! Treat yourself! And if you do have an other…well, Samantha Jones would be oh-so proud…

Cupid’s wings drift in and out, irresistibly yours in bed you shout. Love is strong and most sacred power, the spark of passion is sweet not sour. Aroma’s perfume, chocolate and wine; enjoy the day and then night dine. Eyes meet and rhythms beat, on the dance floor caress and greet. Slight profusions of heart’s desire, fire so hot in love’s hot pyre. Beckon and call your lover to you, express your happiness and don’t be blue! For you are magickal and powerful this be true, this heart warming charm from me to you. By light of candles and exotic oils, may Hathor’s passion fill you will the luxuries of royals. Heart’s desire and harm to none, this Romance charm by my voice is sung!
XOXO,
D.

Adirondack Witches

11 February 2008

“Friendship is the golden thread that ties all hearts together.” ~Unknown
{ Crone Stones from gardenplum.com}

Yesterday I went to the Adirondack Pagan Meetup in Tupper Lake. There were four of us there, and we just talked about everyday normal stuff. We ate at Little Italy, we talked about what we did for a living, where we lived and how we became witches! It seems like all of us have work with kids, of various age groups. One is a Wilderness Therapist, one a music teacher, one a T.A. and home tutourer. But, before I get into what happened at such an event, allow me to tell you what happened beforehand.

Before I was ready to leave, I posted “Just…fly!” I was a wreck, but with the help of some therapeutic rhythms from the Druid Sister Tea Party, Sarah Magloclen, and others on the one Adirondack station for troubled hearts (i.e. gays, and teenage married mothers) I began looking on the bright side. I am not going to pay too much attention to my single-ness. I am going to worry about me, and just me. I can take the time to really reflect (yes more-so than I already am) and work on making myself feel better (i.e. work on my image/appearance). Now, okay I know I’m not an ogre, but I am nutritionally not very well off and I could stand to gain (yes, GAIN) about 30 pounds (preferably muscle weight, but I will take what I can get). I am going to take whatever I get for income taxes and get a membership to the local YMCA and workout my heart, spirit and mind!

Okay, so I got off on another one of my many tangents. Back to the Adirondack Pagan Meeting. I arrived early, and discovered the the original meeting place (“The Brick Oven”) was closed for the winter season. So, I decided to wait. I ended up calling the Chamber of Commerce, their card was taped to the window, and found out some valuable information. “The Brick Oven” reopens back up in spring….May to be more precise.

That is when Autumn showed up, apologized profusely (she’s cute) and we drove to “Little Italy.” Now Autumn lives a very open pagan life, with the exception of work. As she said, once she gets tenor she’ll start wearing her pentacle ring. At any rate we prattled on for awhile about each of our lives and callings, and then a bit about our own craft. It seems like we all have trouble with defining who we are as so called “pagans, wiccans, etc.” Pagan is a very wide umbrella that encompasses a huge if not gigantic world of myth and folkore. So, it is quite interesting though to think about what would define me as a pagan. (Wait for later post). From there we went to Autumn and Mike’s home, whose house number yes quite ironically is house 13 on their street. They have five beautiful cats: Mosi (Mo-Seigh), Loki, Luna, Puck, & Chloe. Then we talked some more, and what would a witch’s gathering be without doing some divinations?

We each picked a Crone Stone, which are very fascinating; a Goddess Card, which are quite beautiful; and did some tarot spreads for each other. My Crone Stone was a Nest, my Goddess Card was Guinevere, and my tarot spreads all pointed to the Ten of Pentacles and movement. (I had asked about moving away). The Nest stone signifies making a sacred space for myself, Guinevere indicates true love: ”One does not necessarily need a partner to feel the powers of true romance. Take the time and indulge yourself in luxuries.” The readings I did for Autumn indicate that she has some deciding to do. I feel that she is having some difficulty with her past unresolved issues (emotional). I hope I can help her. I should think I’ll be doing some tea light and herbal magick very soon!

At any rate I had an exceptional time, and even though I had to drive for a little over an hour (of course it is the north country where distances are measured not in minutes but in hours), it well worth the effort to meet new and intriguing people. We are about to do Shamanic Journeys to find our totems, which I have been desperate to do. And perhaps some Reiki afterwards. Our next meeting is for next month on the 16th! I cannot wait. Oh, and by the by, that would mark off Things To Do numbers 99 and 100!!

Just…fly!

10 February 2008

“May the love hidden deep inside your heart find the love waiting in your dreams. May the laughter that you find in your tomorrow wipe away the pain you find in your yesterdays.”

Have you ever just gotten so angry and tired about the masks we use to hide our inner selves? I’ve gotten to the point where I am simply too tired to keep up appearances, and smile all day long while I am, bluntly, dieing on the inside. Sometimes, I would truly kill for an actual hug, an actual phone call. I feel abandoned and I’m tired to pretending that I am okay by it. I am supposed to go to a Pagan/Wiccan meetup today at 2pm in Tupper Lake, but I don’t know if I can make it with out screaming. I am ranting, and you may think I am doing this for attention: the truth, yes in a way for attention, but not my own. I want to bring attention to all of those people out there that take their friends and family for granted. I want you to realize and be aware of all the things that those closest to you do for you. It takes a lot of time and effort, all they want to know that you appreciate them. The reason for the rant: because it does not take one of you to come out and say that you appreciate all I’ve done, etc, etc. Simple gestures would suffice.

So, here I am, trying to not fall apart, I don’t want to bring bad energy to the meet. I’ve been listening to the Druid Sister Tea Party, and they’re actually helping. It’s sad that my only solace can be found in a song and not someone who pretends to love me.

As for love, and if things couldn’t get any worse. Valentine’s Day is coming this week! Enough said? In an effort to get over such slings and arrows, I’ve finally gotten the nerve to delete him. “Him?” you say? “Him” refers to the one person I have ever loved, yes my true…love. It has taken 3 whole years to get over him, and it feels great (don’t get me wrong) but at the same time it’s a bit lonelier. Before there was the thought, now there isn’t even that. So, I believe the one sure way to break this cloud over my head to to delete him from everything and everywhere. To be more precise: myspace. He is no longer an “added friend.” And I’ve done it! Perhaps now I can feel some sort of accomplishment, perhaps now I can realize where I want to go from here, because I am still ever tempted to move away. To spread my wings and fly! Fly away!

The Eight “I’d Really Rather You Didn’ts”

7 February 2008

{from http://www.britishblogs.co.uk/}

“I think we can all look forward to the time when these three theories are given equal time in our science classrooms across the country, and eventually the world; One third time for Intelligent Design, one third time for Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, and one third time for logical conjecture based on overwhelming observable evidence.” ~Bobby Henderson

Well, my Ace of Wands has directed me towards the light of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM for short). This religion is a comical parody on intelligent design. The canonical beliefs of Flying Spaghetti Monsterism are set forth by Henderson in the Open Letter, the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and on Henderson’s web site, where he is described as a prophet.The central belief is that there is an invisible and undetectable Flying Spaghetti Monster, which created the entire universe “after drinking heavily.” According to the good book, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, planted evidence of evolution in an effort to test Pastafarians’ faith—a form of the Omphalos hypothesis. For example, when any scientific measurements or experiments are being done (radiocarbon dating for example) the FSM “is there changing the results with His Noodly Appendage.”The Pastafarian belief of heaven stresses that it contains beer volcanoes and a stripper factory. Hell is similar, except that the beer is stale, and the strippers have VD.

The good book previously mentioned is aptly named the Loose Canon, and in place of the ten commandments, there are the eight “I’d Really Rather You Didn’ts.” Also, instead of saying the blasphemous “amen,” Pastafarians proclaim, “RAmen!” A spoof on the previous Latin, ‘I believe and mixing it with the common collegian dietary food group Ramen noodles. Rastafarians further proclaim that pirates are divine and have been the subjects of ridicule by the catholic church in the past, which explains their bad PR. Pirates were actually peace loving individuals with a passion for exploration and had a rather big sweet tooth, as they horded it across seas to spread the joy of candy along with them on their voyages.

I have been reading god is not Great: How religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens for a little while and that is why the FSM, has had such an effect on my mind. It really shows how fanatical people out there ARE trying to poison our minds with religious dogma rubbish. Pastafarians and FSMism is quite silly, frivolous and down right hilarious and shows what organized religions of the world try to preach to us. It is sad how there are people out there taking advantage of the illiterate and naive, who will follow any self so-called ‘prophet’.  I havn’t finished the book yet, but even though it is raw logic and down right common sense, I do not want to lose my hope for something larger than myself. the book is cynically comical and paints quite an accurate picture, but I do not believe in everything Hitchens says. Which he points out is a good thing. He is not against religion, but rather organized religion that is just flat out wrong and deceitful. I hope people are starting to open their eyes a bit more, as this age of reason is coming about. Here’s hoping and for another laugh I’ve posted the Eight “I’d Rather You Didn’ts.” Enjoy and have a laugh!

The Eight “I’d rather You Didn’ts”:

I’d really rather you didn’t act like a sanctimonious holier-than-thou ass when describing my noodly goodness. If some people don’t believe in me, that’s okay. Really, I’m not that vain. Besides, this isn’t about them so don’t change the subject.

I’d really rather you didn’t use my existence as a means to oppress, subjugate, punish, eviscerate, and/or, you know, be mean to others. I don’t require sacrifices, and purity is for drinking water, not people.

I’d really rather you didn’t judge people for the way they look, or how they dress, or the way they talk, or, well, just play nice, Okay? Oh, and get this into your thick heads: woman = person. man = person. Sam = Sam. One is not better than the other, unless we’re talking about fashion and I’m sorry, but I gave that to women and some guys who know the difference between teal and fuchsia.

I’d really rather you didn’t indulge in conduct that offends yourself, or your willing, consenting partner of legal age AND mental maturity. As for anyone who might object, I think the expression is go fuck yourself, unless they find that offensive in which case they can turn off the TV for once and go for a walk for a change.

I’d really rather you didn’t challenge the bigoted, misogynistic, hateful ideas of others on an empty stomach. Eat, then go after the bitches.

I’d really rather you didn’t build multi million-dollar synagogues/churches/temples/mosques/shrines to my noodly goodness when the money could be better spent (take your pick):

  1. Ending poverty
  2. Curing diseases
  3. Living in peace, loving with passion, and lowering the cost of cable
    I might be a complex-carbohydrate omniscient being, but I enjoy the simple things in life. I ought to know. I AM the creator.

I’d really rather you didn’t go around telling people I talk to you. You’re not that interesting. Get over yourself. And I told you to love your fellow man, can’t you take a hint?

I’d really rather you didn’t do unto others as you would have them do unto you if you are into, um, stuff that uses a lot of leather/lubricant/Las Vegas. If the other person is into it, however (pursuant to #4), then have at it, take pictures, and for the love of Mike, wear a CONDOM! Honestly, it’s a piece of rubber. If I didn’t want it to feel good when you did it I would have added spikes, or something.

New Phase Begins

6 February 2008

“Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.” ~Albert Szent-Gyorgyi (1893 – 1986), in Irving Good, The Scientist Speculates (1962)

Today is the beginning of something completely new, in every sense. Tonight at 10:46 EST, the Moon will be completely dark, shrouded in mystery spurring all of us to question our own inner dark selves and start new quests. Since it is time to reflect on my new tarot card for this new lunar cycle, it is time to contemplate on the Ace of Wands.

All aces in the tarot denote raw untapped energies. They are still innocent, waiting got be harnessed. There is so much potential, but one has to be weary that you do not go head first with your eyes tied shut. Be glad for new beginnings, but do not allow yourself to be naive in the light of future prospects. The root force of the wand is of a fiery sort. It tells of a new passion a new spark of inspiration in some sort of passionate area. Art, philosophy, religion or career: something is surely going to break threw the ice  of the frozen earth and start blooming. Something is about to take effect in my life, and I think I have a pretty good idea of what it is.

I think I am on the cusp of something, something that will allow me to break through my inhibitions and allow myself to grow. It is time for me to blossom, it is time for me to shine innerward and outward. It is time for me to realize my potential, and the spark that is my dreams and passions. It is time to take my passions and make them happen. I’m excited, but I will still have my fiery staff to defend off negative energies, because I’m about to blaze through!

Dreams, Part 1

6 February 2008

“When I awoke, I’d find the ladybugs walking all over me. Lots and lots of ladybugs…” ~ Under the Tuscan Sun

 Last night I finally got back into the swing of things. I havn’t for the past week been able, sadly, to recall my dreams. For me, dreaming is more than a mere sleep experience. It is when I can delve into my deepest recesses and perhaps get a glimpse of what is to come. Symbology of any dream is interesting enough, but when you wake up in a sweat with your heart pumping and having a complete body, glow, tinglingness; then you’ll probably start listening to your dreams as well.On the subject of animal totems again (and ever since I’ve been doing research) I have not been able to dream of any animals whatsoever, or as I can recall. Last night I finally did, and there were three of them. One was a no brainer: the ladybug. The ladybug can symbolize: the Golden Strand that leads to the Center of the Universe, Past lives, Spiritual enlightenment, & Death and Rebirth. Also, to me the ladybug symbolizes joy, change, good luck, harmlessness, love and beauty. Also still some believe it to mean for you to release your inhibition and live life to the fullest. Which are all very good correspondences.The second was the beaver, and according to Sayahda(view link below):

“Beavers are creatures of the water the element associated with the subconscious. This is where hidden knowledge and forgotten dreams are stored.  A powerful totem to have the beaver reminds us to live our dreams and shows us how to manifest them using the resources available.  Beavers have a gentle nature and are very industrious.  Those with this totem often find that they must work hard to obtain their goals. Remember to be kind to yourself.  When you feel defeated simply call on the beaver to help you.”

 This makes excellent sense to me. I am always dreaming of water. Whether it be ocean, lake or waterfall. I am flying in and out of it, so water dreaming is nothing new to me. The beaver symbolizes this essence this quality about my subconscious especially trying to remember my dreams, since almost all of them have been broken as time goes on. The final animal that appeared was a bit different. It was in fact a prehistoric animal: a dinosaur. Something like a Tyrannosauridae. However, the ladybugs were surrounding it, flying around in a funnel shaped myste. It seemed to be upset about something. I say that it was not in fact a dragon, only because it did not spout fire, and also because as a child I dreamed of becoming a Paleontologist. I suppose, the tyrannosaur symbolizes my aggression and fear that has suppressed over the years. A deep inner anger at the world in which we live, where people murder and debouch other human beings solely based upon mindless hegemony.

A Carnival Celebration

5 February 2008

Breast and bosoms I have known Of varied shapes and sizes From poignant disappointments To jubilant surprises” ~Waldo Pierce

{Carnival masks. Venice, Italy
from
terragalleria.com}

Well, I hope everyone is ready for quite a convurgant celebration. Today marks both a modern and most ancient day of festivities. Some people of the world today know it as either Pancake Day, Fastnacht, or Shroud Tuesday. Still others know it more notably by its more popular name: Mardi Gras or Carnival. The rift of this day of jubilation, primitive lusts and raves is a time for celebration. It is a day where we can have fun with taboos, fill our appetities: some sexual, and others with food and drink. However, sex is a given at any one time or place, regardless of massive headdresses worthy of any dragqueen or parade. Still, Mardi Gras and Carnival have a much older story. A pre-Christian story, as all main holidays do.

Some show a resemblance to the ancient Roman festivities of Lupercalia and Saturnalia. It is clear that most if not all holidays coincide with some sort of pagan celebration of fertility, solstice or equinox. Dieties to honour were transformed into Saints, and celebrations with more fervour were downgraded in their “distastefulness.” However, Mardi Gras as seemed to slip through the crack of pagan to catholic conversion, much the same way as has Halloween, both preceed a day of  self-loathing and guilt. Hence, All Saint’s Day and Lent were created around the more celebrated pagan festivals. However, ’tis true that the main of Mardi Gras and Carnival were created not from one pagan festivity. They were made accordingly to keep the people content, and have people to laugh at, most notably the Jews by Pope John. This however is certain: Pope Joan would have sorted things out for the greatest good for everyone, and still would have had a party!

“Masks and plumage, festivities are here. Some tiresomly straight, some quirkily queer. Jubilation, jubilation celebrate this day. For tomorrow brings a sad Catholic display. Light the candles: purple, gold and green. Have the best fun that you have never seen! Dazziling glitter, food and drink. Take care what is behind the mask, shadows hide more than you think. Let your inner light shine, and dance the night sublime. Take care and beware, a Witch’s power is strong, so watch the wine, to do nothing karmicly wrong. Celebrate the spring, celebrate the taboo. This witch’s wish from me to you. By glittery beauty and mysterious night, may you be protected about you, by your inner light. For the good of all and harm to none, this glitzy charm is won and spun!”

Of course, you can change the pronouns around to suit your needs before you go out tonight. Be safe and be witchy, and have some fun!! Merry Mardi Gras!!
